The Hybrids, The Coventry Automatics, Special AKA ...
Today the first album from The Specials is on the menu (Chrysalis 1979). After a few changes, this is the name with which the band scored their greatest hits. The two tone ska tune with reggae and punk vibe is so recognisable. Just listen to Monkey Man. And the lyrics with clear statements on the then present political climate give the songs an extra interesting touch. The sound of Elvis Costello as producer is present though not an undisputed success. That does not diminish the joy this record brings. Perhaps it even enlightens the joyful part(y), as pace is a predominant ingredient of all songs. In any way, it creates a small party in your living room.
