This Italian print from 1974 has nothing to do with Western movies but does show the versatility and brilliance of Mr Morricone.
The arrangement of Smile is soft, subtle, recognisable and comes earlier than expected. The order of tracks on the sleeve does not match the order on the record itself. But that does not alter the impact of this album. It gives insight into the broad scope of inspiration Morricone used in his musical arrangements. Side A brings an atmosphere of classical, introvert music with floating tunes of hornet and trumpet with soft singing which makes your head sway slowly from left to right.
Moving to the inside of the sleeve the order of tracks is confirmed correctly, along with pictures of Morricone during the proces of arranging. Also a brief description in Italian tells about the idea of arranging music and how Morricone takes traditional music with modern instruments and blends them together.
We then move to more rhythmic music when we end this excursion into arrangements with the Pink Panther. So diverse without feeling not in place. Again he proves to be the master.
