Soothing jazz sounds, lightly upbeat, warm but sorrowful voice... Here is Miss McRae.
Carmen McRae always confuses me. The first few tracks of any album I cannot keep my attention to the music and get distracted way to easily. Only after a couple of songs, she captures me. I know she is known - beside the obvious talent and incredible jazz vibe - for her ironic lyrics. I just wish I could listen to all songs and laugh, without losing focus. Well, something for me to look into. Getting to this record (Groove Merchants, US, 1974), it has the McRae signature by means of her style. The tracks and musical accompaniment are a little to predictable to my taste. Nevertheless, a wonderfull Sunday morning jazz sound is filling the living room.
