In loving memory of Serge Gainsbourg several of his songs have been given a twist or even translated to pay tribute 15 years after his death. The variety of artists underlines the diversity of his work and influence.
This 2LP-record (Verve Forecast, 2006) is a myriad of styles. What else would you expect from an compilation of some of the best works from Gainsbourg, with interpretations of his songs by a wide range of contemporary artists. I have listened to it several times already but always get lost on words when trying to write this blog.
The changes in the songs play with your senses, trigger you to keep listening, but the sounds are at the same time so familiar you easily get distracted but other things. However, the album does make sure you turn your head again for the next track. I don't think it's an amazing album, how much more you could have done with the songs as a true tribute... but it does fascinate me how my mind is caputered one minute, and the next second is completely somewhere else losing any link to the album. I think I will go back to Serge his own work.
