I always used to watch western movies with my father. It either captures you or not but the key ingredient is the music. And Once Upon A Time In The West has some of the most recognisable songs ever written.
In a film mostly filled with shots of horsemen riding along valley, close-ups on tabasco chewing faces, and stern looks the music sets the scene. The anticipation is slowly built up by a harmonica and a whistle guiding a distant figure towards the camera. Meanwhile the horns step in and the string section answers. This is a brilliant piece of music, unmistakably by Ennio Morricone, master of film music.
