El Pianista Del Antifaz - Pascal Comelade

Bijgewerkt op: 12 dec. 2020

The excitement of going to listen to Comelade with an albumcover designed by Joost Swarte is not something you have every day!

I remember the name of Pascal Comelade and a often sold CD in my father's store Tipitina back in the days when I was only 9 or 10 years old. The music is so easy to listen to, but so skilled and with so much small musical jokes underlying each song. It has always fascinated me. However, when I pulled out the record (Because, 2013) the artist was not the first thing to put a smile on my face. It was the sleeve that made my day, designed by Joost Swarte. Joost Swarte is a Haarlem resident, just like my father was - and will always be for that matter. Joost came to Tipitina for a chat, a cup of coffee, and new CD's. Additionally he also

designed a logo for Tipitina twice. His style is so recognisable speaks for itself.

Good match with Pascal Comelade who has a clear sound of his own. Some tracks are almost fanfare, some more brass, classical, electronic, rock or even ska. It is surprising how all these tunes can be on one - side of the - record without making you feel like you are listening to a weird uncontrolled mixture. On the contrary, it is all very composed, played by musicians who clearly know their instrument.

And then we turn the record to face 2... oh such lovely full sounds from the clarinet and the trumpet. But be ready for the next track as an electronic vibration dances into your living room. Or the light piano introducing you to the next theme. Surprise after surprise, turn after turn. And don't forget to empty the sleeve properly as a CD and booklet fall out with Batman behind the piano. No joke! Just hilarious!
