Ben Webster - For the Guv'nor

Southing sounds fill the room. Light tunes while bringing depth from the tenor as a tribute to Duke Ellington aka the Guv'nor.

Not knowing much about the background of Ben Webster the story on the sleeve is telling. After a few years in Copenhagen, Ben cane to Amsterdam. The anecdotes told by Mike de Ruyter form the image of a warm, friendly, interested sociable person who in addition brought wonderful sensible music to various jazzclubs in town. Recorded in '69 (Imperial) in the Netherlands this was his last album while living there. The same musicians were involved as on his first 'Dutch' album.

Timing for putting on this record was great as it brought some sort of safety net to my restless mind. The music keeps moving but is comforting at the same time. I am curious what other Ben Webster albums I will come across as this one definitely stays in my collection.
