The name of Adamo resonates in my memory as a recollection of earlier times, the 'good old days' which were not necessarily good by itself
, but brought along some great music.
How many times my mother has mentioned the name of this artists I cannot remember, but this is the first time I consiously listen to his music. His young voice on the first track sounds rather feminine, but not all songs have this effect. His pronunciation is clear and easy to understand and his voice is fresh and light. Appartently Adamo has been the best selling artist after the Beatles in 1964. This album (La Voix de Son Maître, 1964) was released in the very same year and is of course not comparable with British pop. However, songs as 'Tombe la Neige' and 'Vous Permettez, Monsieur' bring such a recongnisable sound and swing that I get some idea of the sensations happening in the hitparade in the mid 60's.
Funny how the label of His Masters' Voice is translated in French. On the record itself is has though again the English name. Not all versions have did I noticed. Some have a blue sticker on the vinyl full in French. And there is a version of the flipback cover with the Club Adamo address on the back. None of this changes the music though. Perfect for a lazy moment on the couch on a drizzly afternoon.
